The Gem of Antalya: Konyaaltı
Konyaaltı is one of Antalya’s world-renowned beaches. Located very close to the city center, this beach is popular not only for its beauty but also for its easy accessibility. Situated on the western side of the city with a stunning mountain view, Konyaaltı Beach stretches over 7 kilometers.
Why Is It Called Konyaaltı?
Many people wonder where the name Konyaaltı comes from. According to legend, during the Ottoman period, people coming from Konya to Antalya, upon seeing the beach, would say, "We have gone below Konya," and over time this expression evolved into Konyaaltı. Another tale suggests that due to the city's location on cliffs, it was initially called "Koy Altı" (Below the Bay), which later transformed into Konyaaltı.
A Tourist Destination Year-Round
In Antalya, where the swimming season starts early and ends late, Konyaaltı Beach offers year-round access to the sea. The beach is mostly pebbly with some fine sand. Its crystal-clear and clean waters make it a favorite spot for many. However, it’s worth noting that the sea can be quite deep, so we recommend swimming with caution and not venturing too far out. Entry to the beach is free, and changing cabins, toilets, and showers are available for public use at no cost.
On colder days, you can sit by the sea, watch the waves, read a book, or listen to music. This beach is also a popular meeting spot for friends, where you can chat and enjoy good company.
You can take a walk or go for a bike ride along the palm-lined coastal road. Konyaaltı also offers sports areas and plenty of places to rest when needed. You can relax and enjoy the view at luxury restaurants and cafes by the sea. If you wish to stay overnight, there are plenty of hotels and guesthouses nearby waiting to welcome you.
